Sea Monster Task

This was my final design of the sea monster piece. Initially it took a while but i finally got the texture and look i was going for. I liked how easy it was to blend the texture into the drawing and paint over it to not make it look to obvious on how the image i used was from the internet. As i was going over it i also incorporated the same texture on to the sharp edges on the back of the sea monster. It really helped me get that effect i was going for.

One thing i could of gone over was doing a bit more work to the tongue as well as the sharp edges on the body. I didnt want one part of the piece to effect the rest of the piece negatively and stand out negatively. The alligator skin helped get that smooth effect for the drawing but i needed the facial features to also stand out. The tongue was particularly difficult because i needed the right shade of the pink as i didnt want to compare it to a human tongue. As i knew since the sea monster was dirty filthy and practically would eat anything, so adding just enough burn but not too much was the motive. After to not make it too dark i included the dodge tool.

This was where i got to after i had finished drawing the outline and main body features. I used the research to help me get started with the body shape and features as well as colours. I used the boat as a sinking the boat with a innocent man about to be attacked. This was my first initial draft of the the task and yet i had more development to add to the body such as the mouth eyes, nose as well as textures. It was still early but i knew i had maintain that realism i was trying to achieve. Once i had past this stage i then began on moving on to the detail on the sea monster

My main issue i would criticise myself on was entirely how to make the body stand out and not look like some flimsy coloured drawing. I wanted that wow factor to make it stand out. The tounge was also hard to replicate as i wanted to get the right colours as well as also paying attention to the teeth also.

When i began my initial design for the mood board my first response was deciding exactly what size and look i was going for. Whether the monster had dragon like features or features from a snake and lizard. Over all i took ideas from both to incorporate into my piece. This was just getting to grips what size i was going for and what factor would stand out from the drawing. So i decided to add the them onto the sketch.
