This was the enemy trap I designed for the game on the Game Encounters part of the course. Me and Stans game is a 3D fly shooter game. These were the enemy trap designs I came up with they're both originally two pyramids merged together to make one hexagon like shape to initiate the attack on the single player.
The prybar was one of the interesting peices to design, getting the edge of the tool was the most important bit to define what exactly i was trying to remake. As well as the 3 sides to the long part of it to get the realistic look to it. I also had to make sure that when I was designing the tool that it had the right length and width on both sides.
The only problems I came across really was when i cut out the top part I forgot to fill the hole, so initially I had to go back to filling it in, as it looked poor when you could see the gaps from different angles.
After getting past the first part of the whole task, was mainly just getting to grips with remaking the genuine shape of the handle on an actual hammer. I found this fairly simple and straight forward completing this bit. Just at the bottom I had to extrude the shape to make it curve and round to get the perfect shape.
The errors in the prop design how ever helped me understand how to tackle the problems that I often come across when getting the correct shape .
When I was designing the Hammer, the tutorial started by explaining how to complete the top part of it, as this shape was the most complex of it all. I found it really smooth and interesting on find out new ways to edit this shape just from a box or rectangle as some would start of best with for this piece. I found it beneficial learning new ways to model 3D Objects from scratch. This particular one was a good demonstration of how you can make objects on Maya very realistic. I found it easy to go back and demonstrate the techniques with other objects after learning some methods from the tutorial on Lynda.
However what I did find fairly difficult was getting the symmetry correct with the whole shape, while I was modelling, as one error can easily affect the whole piece. At times when using the extrude and shaping the edges I often forgot to hold shift to equally design the object in its correct size and value. Learning from those mistakes helped with the rest of the Hammer, but the main problem I came across was this part of the task, eventually I got through it.
